STRETCHING

Stretching will help your muscles prepare and recover from exercise, which will help stop injury. It will also help you to relax and conserve energy.

I love running, but never used to stretch out. This caused no end of problems, from Plantar Fasciitis, achilles tendonitis and groin strains. Finally after one bout of injury which stopped me running for  six months, I had enough. I went to a specialist sports physiotherapist who asked me about my stretching regime. I embarrassingly told him I didn’t have one. After telling me off, he recommended a stretching routine that I also follow every day. Thankfully I’ve been injury free since then.

I also took up yoga, which means I get a regular all over body stretch.

Yoga

Yoga is a terrific way look after your body. In effect you stretch every part of  your body. Yoga is much more than that though. Yoga can be thought of as a way of life rather than an exercise regime and it is beyond the remit of this post to describe all of the benefits. Suffice to say, taking up yoga was one of the single most beneficial things I have done.
